As a Software Engineer at Subject, you'll build the AI-powered features and experiences that make learning engaging and effective. Your code will run on systems serving 100K+ students daily, directly influencing their educational outcomes.

What You'll Build

AI-Powered Learning Features

• Implement AI-enhanced educational experiences with sub-100ms response times
• Build personalized learning pathways that adapt to each student's progress
• Create real-time feedback systems using LLMs with AI pair programming
• Develop AI-powered content recommendations that increase engagement
• Ship features weekly using GitHub Copilot/Claude with 90%+ acceptance rate

Production-Grade Student Experiences

• Build responsive, accessible web applications serving thousands of learners daily
• Create video-based learning interfaces that work flawlessly on any device
• Implement real-time collaboration features connecting students and teachers
• Design components that make learning intuitive and engaging
• Deploy to production weekly with confidence

Full-Stack Development

• Build Node.js services handling millions of daily requests
• Create React/TypeScript interfaces that students love using
• Design RESTful APIs powering seamless user experiences
• Write comprehensive test suites with AI assistance, achieving 80%+ coverage
• Optimize database queries and implement caching strategies

Technical Requirements

• 2-4 years software engineering with production systems serving real users
• Strong Node.js experience - You've built scalable backend services and understand modern Node patterns
• Frontend proficiency - React/TypeScript experience building user interfaces
• Database experience - PostgreSQL or similar relational databases
• AI/ML curiosity - Eager to integrate LLMs and AI tools into your development workflow
• API design - Experience building RESTful APIs
• Cloud familiarity (GCP preferred) - Comfortable with containerized applications

3 Months:

• Ship 3-5 features per week using AI acceleration

• Build strong partnerships with product and design teams

6 Months:

• Contribute to major features used by 10K+ students monthly
• Reduce bug resolution time by 50% with AI debugging
• Take ownership of complete features from concept to production

12 Months:

• Ship features that directly improve student outcomes and engagement
• Achieve 99.9%+ uptime for owned services
• Generate $100K+ in efficiency gains through technical contributions
• Demonstrate readiness for senior-level responsibilities

Compensation

• Base Salary: $145K - $155K based on experience and impact potential
• Performance Bonuses: Tied to company goals
