Function fosters a collaborative and dynamic environment, where every day we are building the future.
Role:
We’re seeking an experienced and mission-driven Medical Director to lead the expansion of our clinical operations in Canada. This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, and compliant care across the Canadian market. You will serve as the senior clinical leader for Function Health Canada, guiding clinical protocols, regulatory strategy, and provider team development.
Reporting into executive leadership, you’ll work cross-functionally with product, legal, regulatory, and operations teams to build a best-in-class virtual care model aligned with Function’s standards of excellence. As we scale our offering—including advanced lab diagnostics and imaging—you will play a central role in shaping clinical workflows and infrastructure to support sustainable growth.
This role is ideal for a physician leader who thrives in dynamic environments and is energized by the opportunity to shape the future of healthcare delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clinical Leadership & Oversight
- Provide high-quality virtual care including telehealth consultations, diagnostic ordering and review, and communication of results to members.
- Set and monitor clinical performance standards, including KPIs, quality benchmarks, and patient satisfaction metrics.
- Provider Network Development
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing training of the Canadian provider team.
- Build a scalable clinician network aligned with Function’s care model balancing synchronous, asynchronous, and specialist care delivery.
- Clinical Governance & Regulatory Compliance
- Serve as the primary clinical and regulatory advisor for Canada.
- Ensure full compliance with provincial and federal health regulations, licensing requirements, and telemedicine standards.
- Partner with legal and compliance teams to maintain up-to-date policies and ensure risk mitigation practices are in place.
- Operational Strategy & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures, clinical workflows, and escalation pathways in coordination with product and ops teams.
- Collaborate on integration of new services (e.g., genomics) into the Function Health platform.
- Support strategic planning, including roadmap development and long-term expansion initiatives across Canada.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Representation
- Represent Function Health in clinical advisory forums, media engagements, and strategic discussions with regulators or partners, as needed.
- Provide thought leadership on proactive, data-driven care in the Canadian context.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Licensed physician in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Canada (CPSO or relevant provincial body)
- Licensed in Ontario and/or British Columbia
- 10+ years of experience in healthcare delivery, including prior leadership as a Medical Director or equivalent role.
- Proven track record in scaling virtual care delivery models, particularly in startup or growth-stage organizations.
- Deep knowledge of advanced diagnostic modalities, including comprehensive lab testing and MRI imaging.
- Familiarity with Canadian healthcare regulations, including those governing telemedicine, privacy (PIPEDA), and professional licensure.
- Technically fluent with telehealth platforms and communication tools (e.g., Zoom, Slack, EHRs).
