Position Overview:

As a Software Engineer at Diligent, you’ll play a hands-on role in building and operating the cloud infrastructure and backend services that power our platform. You’ll work primarily with Node.js/TypeScript to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing microservices on AWS, while also designing and maintaining infrastructure as code with AWS CDK and managing CI/CD pipelines.

This role is ideal for a mid-level engineer who is strongest in backend and infrastructure development but is also curious about frontend collaboration. You’ll own services end-to-end—from design and coding to deployment and monitoring—while mentoring junior teammates, guiding architectural discussions, and championing responsible use of AI-powered tools to accelerate delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver well-defined stories independently, with a clear grasp of team architecture, frameworks, and tools.
  • Build and maintain infrastructure using AWS CDK constructs and support automation across environments.
  • Actively contribute to code reviews, testing practices, and maintain service stability.
  • Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to ensure system health, observability, and reliability.
  • Apply security best practices in infrastructure and backend services, including IAM policies, secrets management, and safe handling of sensitive data.
  • Support and guide junior engineers (SE-I), fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and constructive feedback.
  • Maintain healthy development flow by adhering to Agile processes and driving iterative enhancements.
  • Use AI tools to accelerate coding, debugging, testing, research, and code reviews, always validating outputs and applying judgment.
  • Understand core LLM concepts (e.g., tokens, context length, hallucinations), recognize safe vs. unsafe use cases, and flag ethical, privacy, or cost concerns.

Required Experience/Skills

  • 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience in an agile environment.
  • Strong proficiency in backend development with Node.js/TypeScript, RESTful API design, and microservice/serverless architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and knowledge of schema design and optimization.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in AWS environments, including managing CI/CD pipelines and writing/maintaining AWS CDK constructs.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code practices; Terraform or CloudFormation experience is a plus.
  • Practical experience with containerization using Docker.
  • Familiar with CI/CD workflows (GitHub Actions or equivalent).
  • Experience implementing and maintaining monitoring and observability solutions (e.g., CloudWatch, Datadog, Prometheus, ELK).
  • Knowledge of security best practices in cloud and backend development, including IAM, secrets management, and secure-by-design principles.
  • Understanding of AI-assisted engineering, including LLM concepts (tokens, context length, hallucinations), prompt engineering, and safe/ethical AI usage.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with experience discussing design trade-offs and documenting technical decisions.
  • Familiarity with React or another modern frontend framework is a plus.
